​​Melanie is a food law attorney with a Master’s in Food Safety, and has recently received her Master Professional Certified Coaching credential to better able her to coach food industry leaders to the next level in their respective careers.  She has invested her 25+year career in providing the food and beverage industry with actionable and practical solutions on a variety of food safety and executive leadership topics --from legal and regulatory compliance to operational and brand reputation management.  She is a thought leader in areas including legal and regulatory compliance, recall and crisis management, food safety culture and integrating food safety into corporate enterprise risk management programs.
Melanie held food law and food safety related positions with Hormel Foods, the Schwan Food Company, Fredrikson & Byron law firm, Price-Waterhouse Coopers, Leavitt Partners and the Acheson Group, her own firm, Neumann Risk Services, and most recently Matrix Sciences.
Melanie is a graduate of Mitchell-Hamline Law School in St. Paul, MN with a juris doctorate in law degree, and Michigan State University with a Master’s of Science in Food Safety.  She has served as an adjunct professor for both universities.
Melanie is an active member of IAFP having served as chair for several Professional Development Groups (PDG’s). She is the 2021 IAFP Harold Barnum Industry Award winner for exceptional contributions to public health, the industry and IAFP.  She is a sought-after speaker and expert in food regulations.
In her spare time, Melanie is a competitive triathlete competing in IRONMAN® long-distance triathlons and is currently training for the Ironman World Championships this fall in Kona, Hawaii!
